Good Mental Health

I often think about the words I saw on a poster some years ago, it read: “There is no good health without good mental health”. After repeating it a few times and analyzing what it could mean, this is what I came up with.

The mind controls you, whatever you do, what you say, was first a thought before it became an action. If your mind is influenced to devise and accept unhealthy habits, then that is what it will tell the body to do.

Examples of these are:

  • Constantly eating foods very high in fat and cholesterol may lead to obesity
  • Smoking cigarettes
  • Marijuana may lead to lung cancer
  • Alcoholism may lead to liver dysfunction and
  • Sedentary lifestyle may lead to deep vein thrombosis

and I’m sure you can give lots more examples.

Good Mental Health – Simply The Truth

Nevertheless, in addition to the mind leading us to make poor, sometimes unhealthy choices, there are also conditions that affect our mental health directly, like schizophrenia and depression.

Some may also be cyclical, like marijuana induced psychosis. This may be as a result of the choice to smoke marijuana, probably for pleasure, and with its use, a psychotic condition is derived which leads to continued decisions of poor choices, if not treated.

So you see, a lot of things in our lives depend on what’s going on in us mentally. That’s why I conclude that the statement is entirely true. What do you think? Tell us in comments.
