In order to prepare the most delicious yet healthy cake, we decided to use the health benefits of Omega 3! You probably have heard about Omega 3 up until now. But if you have not, let’s review them. Omega 3 can be found in many foods – from fish to dairy products to grains and nuts and vegetables.

Omega 3 fats are not only easily found they are included in everyday diet and have many health benefits. A study conducted on patients who have suffered a heart attack has shown that the supplementation with fish oils, rich in Omega 3, has reduced the risk of future heart attacks.

Also, Omega 3 fats are anti-arrhythmic, anti-thrombotic, anti-arteriosclerotic and anti-inflammatory, which successfully increase your heart’s health! A study done on the topic of the ability of Omega 3 to normalize and regulate the cholesterol triglyceride levels has also proven successful!

We bet that after acknowledging the health benefits of the Omega 3 fats, using them to prepare a delicious cake must seem like a great idea!

We present to you the “Whole Wheat Apple Cake”!

Whether you want to present it as a tea cake or a birthday cake, the whole wheat apple cake is the perfect choice for a cake that is both delicious and easy to prepare! And what is most important – it is healthy!

The best thing about this recipe is the apples. You can find the apples anytime, anywhere! And we do not even need to mention the presence of Omega 3 fats in the milk, eggs and flour, which are valuable sources of Omega 3 fats!

What do you need to prepare the Whole Wheat Apple Cake?

4 medium peeled and thin sliced apples

1 ¾ cups of whole wheat flour

2 ½ teaspoons of baking powder

3 tablespoons of chia seeds (although this ingredient is optional)

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

1 egg

1 teaspoon of sea salt

1 cup of milk

1/3 cup of butter

How to prepare the “Whole Wheat Apple Cake”?

  • Before you heat the oven to 375 ºC.
  • In a bowl, add and mix the dry ingredients. Afterward, add and mix the butter and 1/3 of the milk.
  • After they are combined, add the rest of the milk along with the egg and the vanilla extract and continue mixing.
  • In this mixture add the apple slices, however, do leave some of the apple slices to decorate the cake afterward.
  • Using a spatula, add the mix to the baking pan evenly.
  • Decorate the top using the rest of the apple slices.
  • Bake at least 25 minutes. You can extend the time for another 5 to 10 minutes. You can serve the cake either cold or hot. If you do decide to serve the cake hot, adding a dollop of maple cinnamon whip cream is always a great idea to add to the flavor palette of the cake!

This cake is also a good dessert to be included in a vegetarian diet. However, you will need to replace the egg with applesauce and the milk with honey or maple syrup. Just because you are a vegetarian that does not mean that you cannot enjoy this delicious yet healthy cake!
